Can’t-Miss 2017 Chicago Halloween Activities

Hands down, fall is one of the best times of year in Chicago.  Maybe it has something to do with the vibrant colors everywhere, or maybe it’s because we know something spooky is lurking around the corner.  Whatever the reason, you just can’t beat the frightful fun that awaits festive Chicagoland residents this season!

For many Chicagoans, Halloween means a bountiful season of candy, costumes, and pumpkins.  For others (like us), it’s all about getting in those most frightful encounters.  So, if you’re feeling brave (or even if you’re not), keep reading. We’ve put together our list of can’t-miss haunted houses in and around the area for Halloween 2017.

Haunted Houses

Basement of the Dead

When:  Through November 4th from 7 p.m. – 10 p.m.

Where:  42 W New York Street Aurora, IL 

Known as one of the top haunted houses in Illinois by fellow Halloween connoisseurs, Basement of the Dead is well-worth the drive to Aurora. This haunted house goes all out with creepy actors, a trippy maze of themed rooms and those all-so-necessary disorienting light effects.  Trust us, this one’s not for the faint of heart!

Fright Fest at Six Flags Great America

When:  Through October 31st (Check website for exact hours of operation)

Where:  Six Flags Great America

As if a theme park full of scream your head off roller coasters isn’t enough of a scare, these guys are taking fright night to whole new levels!  Come out as Six Flags transforms into its own Halloween alter ego with terrifying shows, haunted houses and a trick-or-treat trail for the kids.  But, watch out!  Two-hundred monsters, ghouls, and goblins will be lurking around the park just waiting to spook their victims.

Dungeon of Doom

When:  Through October 31st (Be sure to check the website for exact hours of operation.)

Where: 600 29th St. Zion, Illinois

This haunted house is best known for its Buried Dead or Alive experience, a true living nightmare that simulates the sensation of going to an early grave.  If that’s not scary enough, there’s also a haunted hospital on-site, a gruesome sewer and the Cabin of Carnage.  Enter if you dare!  
Statesville Haunted Prison

When:  Through October 31st starting at 7 p.m.

Where: 17250 S Weber Rd. Crest Hill 60441 

Zombie Army Productions’ flagship haunted house sits about 50 minutes southwest of Chicago, but serious thrill seekers say it’s well-worth the brief road trip. Visitors enter the fictitious Statesville Prison where they can explore 23 different cells all filled with rioting prisoners before dodging zombies in the City of the Dead.  For those brave enough to make it through, it will be a night you’ll never forget!  

Midnight Terror Haunted House

When:  Through November 4th from 7 p.m. – 11 p.m.

Where: 5520 W 111th Street Oak Lawn, Illinois 60453 

This South Side haunted house is truly one-of-a-kind, as it mixes old-school thrills with animatronic and CGI effects.  Visitors will encounter all sorts of creepy characters, from ghost cult leaders, to demonic workers and cannibalistic butchers, hiding behind every corner of this 60-room haunted nightmare.
